Kresen Kernow Community Consultation

Kresen Kernow, RedruthFollowing last months article, Kresen Kernow has confirmed its first dates and locations of community consultations.

Kresen Kernow (Cornwall Centre) will contain public reading rooms, a reference library, a café, exhibitions areas, a ‘learning space’ for school, community and public events and activities, work areas, meeting rooms and specialist store rooms for books, photographs, newspapers, maps and documents. It will greatly improve the storage conditions of the collections, public access to them, the events and activities we can host and the services we can provide.

The building will bring together the collections of Cornwall Record Office, the Cornish Studies Library and Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Historic Environment Record. Together they form the biggest collection of information for studying Cornwall’s people, places, history and culture. The collections contain documents, books, records, maps, photographs and databases, which date from 10,000BC to the present day.

Your views count, and there will be an opportunity for you to have a say in what you would like to see available at the site. We will also be setting up focus groups to help us work through any specific ideas or issues any particular aspect of the community has identified.

Information, research and access, is of course is what the new site is all about, and we will be looking to form groups to look at aspects of Cornwall’s past. At the road-shows you will be able discuss these with the project team.

  • There will be information available on the day about the above and opportunities for you to sign up and get involved;
  • There will be a chance to relive the sites and smells of the brewery, with press TV footage from the 1990’s, archival documents from its hey day, as well as artefacts for you to interact with;
  • The roles of the three services which will come together to form Kresen Kernow will be explained;
  • There will be people there to talk to you about their roles within the Kresen Kernow project, and be able to signpost you to where any questions you may have can be answered.
