FilmThe Cornish film industry is booming and there is a strong interest among film makers in Cornwall to make films in the Cornish language. In 2002 the first feature length film in Cornish, Hwerow Hweg (Bitter Sweet) was premiered at the House of Commons. A number of films for children are being made in Cornish, including Konin ha Pryv, a pre-school animation about the adventures of a rabbit and a worm. There is also an annual award for Cornish language films at the Cornwall Film Festival: the prestigious Govynn Kernewek is awarded each year to a film maker to produce a ten minute short in Cornish. This has produced a number of quality Cornish language shorts, to add to the already wide ranging variety of Cornish language films that are being made. For more information about the Govynn Kernewek Award visit the Cornwall Film Festival website. Clips from a number of Cornish language films can be found in the Playing Place section of the website, on the Video clips page. |
